From busy hospital corridors and bustling retail floors to government facilities, transport depots, and commercial enterprises, Hercules equipment has been quietly doing the heavy lifting that keeps Australia moving. As the sole Australian distributor of state-of-the-art stair climbers sourced from leading manufacturers across Europe and the USA, Hercules built a product catalogue unparalleled in the marketplace, spanning stair climbing equipment, lifting products, electric vehicles, and fully bespoke solutions engineered to address unique challenges. With a skilled team capable of developing tailor-made solutions for specific applications, and over 1,300 machines delivered across the country, Hercules has long set the standard for proactive, consultative materials handling, and earned a Workcover Back Injury Prevention Equipment Award to prove it.
2004: Smarter Parking for a Growing Nation
In 2004, Hercules founder Terry Smith looked at Australia’s rapidly growing cities and saw a problem worth solving. Urban land was shrinking, but the demand for vehicle storage was climbing, and while Europe, the USA, and Asia had been embracing mechanical carparking systems for decades, Australia was still catching up. Hercules’ car parking systems division was born, a uniquely Australian-owned carparking company, fully committed to the local market and staffed by a team of over 30 with team members who were qualified engineers available to design bespoke solutions for every conceivable parking requirement. Starting with residential double stackers and growing into fully automated, state-of-the-art systems, the division expanded its portfolio year on year, eventually establishing offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth. From single-stacker residential installations to large-scale automated facilities housing hundreds of vehicles, Hercules’ car parking systems division left its mark on more than 130 large-scale locations and many more smaller projects across Australia, bringing intelligent, space-efficient parking to developers, architects, strata managers, government departments, and homeowners alike.
2011: Giving People Their Freedom Back
In 2011, Hercules made perhaps its most personal and meaningful move yet, stepping into the world of personal mobility, not simply to sell a product, but to genuinely improve lives. A range of personal stair climbers was introduced, designed specifically for individuals with limited mobility who had quietly accepted that certain parts of their home, or their world, were simply beyond reach. These innovative devices changed that reality entirely. With a Hercules stair climber, a staircase stopped being a barrier and became just another part of the journey, something to be navigated with confidence, ease, and dignity. Rooted in the same engineering philosophy that had defined the brand since its earliest days, these mobility stair lift solutions brought new concepts in personal independence to the marketplace. Today, hundreds of Australian families know what it feels like to move freely again, and that remains one of Hercules’ most proudly held achievements.
2023: A Division Wound Down
By 2023, the founders of Hercules had given the better part of their lives to the business. They had shown up early, stayed late, never refused meetings, shaken hands on challenging jobs others turned away, and built something that outlasted trends, economic downturns, and the relentless churn of an industry that never stops moving. When the time came to step back, Hercules’ car parking division was voluntarily liquidated. The Hercules Lifting Solutions division continued to trade strongly, and focused on delivering materials handling and mobility lifting solutions for families, businesses, the public sector, and government clients across Australia.
As of Today: New Ownership, Same Standard
In 2025, Hercules turned a new page. The founding owners, having built something truly remarkable for over three decades, retired, leaving behind a brand still very much alive and trading strongly. A passionate new team stepped in, not to reinvent the Hercules brand, but to honour it, carrying forward the same commitment to excellence, reliability, and customer care that had defined the brand from the very beginning. Following the acquisition of the Hercules brand by new ownership, the business has turned its full focus to what has always been at its core, delivering high-impact materials handling and mobility lifting solutions for families, businesses, the public sector, and government clients across Australia.
